Does AmEx Hard Pull for Pay Over Time Enrollment?

Postby Robrus1 » Fri Aug 09, 2013 8:54 am

Last night I was catching up on some Dexter episodes and decided to call AmEx afterwards to ask and make sure that I was "eligible" for the 30K Starpoints bonus offer on my new SPG card. It says down in the fine print that not all existing AmEx customers would be eligible, so I just wanted to make sure before I run 5K through it. I had had a few cold ones and I decided to just call the Platinum customer service and see if they'd know. The guy that I spoke with talked me in to enrolling in the pay over time feature, even though I'll never use it, but I said "OK" because he offered me 10K MR points to do so. Now I'm thinking maybe I got a HP and didn't know it because he did the whole, "Do I have your permission process your"....blah blah blah. Oh and he asked for my annual income. I'm almost certain they HP'd me. Again. :/

Oh and calling Platinum CS I noticed that the automated system doesn't make you enter your card # anymore, you just push 0 and get sent immediately to CS, which is nice. I guess they listened to the complaints and decided to step up and match CSP.

Why would you call the Platinum customer service when you had a question about the SPG? I understand it's the same company, but that would be like calling your auto dealership and speaking to the finance office when you had a question about getting an oil change. Same business, different departments. Each doing their own thing. I think this calls for a F/R and me taking your sandwich.
Poke me and I will F/R you

Well, Snarky Bear, I called Platinum for several reasons; I also had a question about MR points to be credited to my account due to a letter from AmEx I received yesterday, and SPG customer service probably wouldn't know anything about that, so rather than make 2 calls, I thought I'd see if the Platinum rep would happen to be able to see my SPG information and eligibility for the bonus, and he did, so it saved me a phone call. Also, I pay them $450 a year, so I don't feel bad about asking them, I mean if he didn't know, I could call SPG customer service, but I figured it was worth a shot. No harm done, Teddy. Oh and when calling Platinum I've found I'm more likely to get American CS. Thanks for the auto dealership analogy! (sarcasm) Anyone up for a bear hunt? (snatches sandwich back)
