I doubted it, but I got the 3x increase!

Postby catsartcox » Thu Aug 08, 2013 10:53 am

Today is my 61st day, hard to believe it has been that long. But after reading how everyone has been having troubles lately with getting the increase. I did not think it would work for me. Cause I usually carry a 5-10% balance every month.

But in a 5 minute call Amex went from being one of my lowest cards to my highest; With a 6k limit.

Kinda cool. Yesterday I did call Wells fargo, as it was also time for an increase(180 days). They only gave me an increase of 1400 to 4.8k. They seem to be holding back, as I have been with them for 3 years with out a single problem. IDK....
Wells Fargo w/ Points - 6.2k
Discover More - 10k
Citi Forward - 3.7k
Citi Thank You Preferred - 18.5k
AMEX Blue - 16.4k
AMEX PRG- NPSL
Barclay Juniper card/Apple - 9k
GE Capital Amazon Store Card 5k

score
722(7/13) 732(8/13) 734(9/13) 743(2/14) 763(07/14) 798(3/15) 749(4/16)

That's cool congratulations. I'm still waiting on my 90 days to be up (which won't be till October) to have it match my Barclay limit. But with Wells Fargo by the time I had even asked them for a CLI, I had already been with them for about two years. Literally had to fight tooth and nail to get an increase. And even then it was only $700 so I just decided to cut my lost and put it in the sock draw (since it was my first card) until I can figure out what to do with it.
Wells Fargo Platinum 2.100 (5/2011-cld 7/12/14)
AmEx Platinum (6/12)
Barclays Apple (6/12)
AMEX Gold Delta (5/13)
Marriott Rewards (7/14)

My credit score
EQ: unknown
EX: 762
TU: 752

I got denied on july 2nd for the 61 day increase on the Amex, currently at 2,000.
However, i obtained a CSP with a limit of 15,500 since then and a Bank of America increase from 4,000 to 10,000.

Hard to understand why Amex would not increase at all.
We shall see come 10-3-13

What reason did they give you? You should have rejection letter with reasons. Are you sure you waited the proper 61 days as it will reject you pre 61 days and generate no rejection letter with rejection reasons.

They said my Amex risk level was high, I do not understand considering the other card I obtained and the cli from B.O.A.
4% utilization on 54,000 available with a high income. No negatives either....?

My guess is , inquiries. What stuns me is AmEx saw all inquiries before approving my cards. Since then the only new inquiries were from AmEx. Oh well, I'm not angry didn't really need the CLI but from my first post on here about AmEx I'm seriously starting to wonder if those people who posted negative about AmEx very well may be true. I guess I'll wait n see.

I had 5 inquiries at the time of rejection, could have been the reason.
My limits now are substantially higher than Amex, I will use the CSP for the most part for the rewards and the low utilization.

I like the thought of having an Amex, but at this point in time, I do not want to use it due to the limit.

Hopefully in the future, they will see me as a good risk.

At the time of application, had you guys been PIFing? Also what was the utilization % on the Amex at time of CLI request (even if you didn't owe anything yet)?
