Simultaneous apps with same provider and sign up bonuses

Postby Wildcat_1 » Tue Aug 06, 2013 10:27 pm

All
In my quest to learn as much as I can about the process before weighing up a couple of apps I have another question. First however a big thank you to all here on CCF for their help so far.

The question is this

1) if I simultaneously apply for multiple cards from one provider and get approved, let's say 2-3 AMEX cards (2 of which are the same type e,g, 2 charge or 2 revolving) as a new customer to the provider period do I get all the sign up bonuses of the cards I applied for ? If not and assuming applied for simultaneously and approved how do AMEX determine which bonus you get and how would I know which spend to focus on to achieve it ?

If anyone has been through a similar situation would be great to hear from you

Thanks
WC

I applied for BCE and after approval decided to apply for Blue Sky next day. Gained sign up and initial spend bonuses from both. $150 for BCE and $100 for Blue Sky. I guess as long as you weren't already an Amex cardholder and app for them at same time or close together you will get the bonuses. I was surprised because I thought I wouldn't get it on the Blue Sky.

Your second and third applications with Amex will probably be delayed and you'll have to call in for approval. You may get your second application approved. Your third will probably be rejected. If you apply for two charge cards, they probably won't give you both bonuses. If you apply for two completely different revolvers, you may get both bonuses.

On the plus side, if you apply for both on the same day and call in for the second application that day as well, the inquiries will probably be merged.

If you are approved for the card, you will absolutely get the bonus. I recently applied for Chase Sapphire Preferred (40k bonus), the AMEX Mercedes Platinum (50k bonus), the AMEX Business Gold (50k bonus) and the Citi AAdvantage Visa (50k bonus) on the same day. With all providers, it's all about the Terms & Conditions of the offer you applied for. For example, AMEX has 25k, 50k, 75k and 100k bonus offers for the Platinum card floating around. You cannot ask for more with AMEX, but you can with Chase.

As a rule of thumb, take a screen shot of the offer in case you have to fight for it. Also, as soon as you get the cards, call to confirm your bonuses.
