Strange CLI request and responses.

Called Amex yesterday and talked to a Rep that stated he could put in my request for a CLI but it would take 7-10 days to have an answer. I said don't worry about it. He then said he was able to put a request in to raise my spending limit but not my reported credit limit. I do not get this at all... I then went online today and decided to just request the CLI online thinking it would be instant answer. 7-10 Days. Called Amex and the lady said it is in process and being looked at. She then said, I would be notified within 48 hours of the answer.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Did you get a foreign rep? He may have been telling you that you aren't eligible for a true CLI but only a temporary spending limit increase, though I'm not aware if Amex does this. But otherwise it really doesn't make any sense. And trying to get answers out of the foreign CS is like pulling teeth. You might call back and get an American who you can understand who will "get" what you are saying.

Happens all the time. Not sure why lady said 48 hours because generally a letter is sent in the mail. I could use a sandwich right now....

Yup, same thing just happened to me on my Clear card. Did the on line CLI request, got the 7-10 day message. Still awaiting a response from AMEX.
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!
EQ = 846 EX=828 TU = 836 as of 02/2016
