I was just joking around and wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything. I just feel like maybe you're overthinking it a little bit. I mean, your gold card doesn't even report a limit, so utilization shouldn't be a concern, right? Every now and then my CSP, BCP, or Platinum will report a pretty high balance, but the next month I always make sure it reports a low balance so that it shows that I can pay down my cards, and that looks good so I don't worry about it, and I just think maybe you shouldn't be too worried either. You thought you were blacklisted and you seemed pretty happy to be back in with Amex. They're a great card company to do business with, and a great company to have on your side.

Each merchant may be different but it also has to do with when the merchant settles their batch report. Some may do it every night or some may do it every time a new employee takes the register. I know this is true for many merchants as I have done it myself. As far as my experience, I could keep someone's money in pending for five business days if I wanted, I could wait that long to settle my reports. During that time I could also change people's charges amounts if needed, which restaurants do to add in tips.

Say whatever you want guys I really don't much care anymore. You say the sky is purple? Yeah dude whatever rock the hell on in the free world man! You da man!

I need a life I have realized people suck.

A.) You need a hobby.

B.) If you charge something during the statement period and the batch post is within 1 or 2 days they'll wait and generate the statement then. They are very very clear about that.

C.) Have you tried Yoga?

It's a bleeding credit card, It doesn't matter if it's a Cent or a Green or a CSP.

You should not be this stressed over a credit card.

You're assuming intent. I have to agree that it sounds like AmEx doesn't suit your specific needs/wants so why continue to use them? Use whatever works for you on any topic -- not just credit cards.

Pot, kettle. You seem to be perfectly ok being snarky with myFICO yet you can't handle snark directed at you. If you don't care then why are you bothering to post?

Some charges do take forever to post, which is why I stop using my BCP a full 3-4 days before the statement closes (even charges at Costco, which you would imagine would post sooner given their relationship with Amex).

flan wrote:Amex was pretty clear when I talked to them about this issue that they bill by the transaction date. So if your closing date is the 18th, and they authorize a charge at 11:59 pm, they'll wait to generate the statement until the transaction posts, or the auth expires..

No, they won't do that. I can generate an auth that does not expire for 90 days or more. They are not going to wait that long. They go by the capture date.

Seriously though, I don't understand why you are worried about this. And even if it impacts you, I have a hard time believing AMEX is doing anything nefarious unless you make a case for why it benefits them. I think you are experiencing variations caused by processing delays. If this somehow benefited them because they are living on float or something then you could totally turn the tables by waiting until 1 day after statement date to make big transactions. Heck, I do that all the time.

Unless you can come up with a clear reason why this would even matter to AMEX, I am with the group that thinks you are just being delusional!

I agree. I have a different question. I was looking for that, I came across to your post--which is also true. Lets say it says closing is 10th of that month. Is it 10th midnight (one minute before 11th)?

MemberSince99 wrote:I've had it happen twice now in the short time I've had BCP where charges just BAM immediately hit (usually it takes a couple of days) and that's right at closing time. I even timed it so that I had charges on it the day before closing thinking they wouldn't post but guess what - Amex actually posted the NEXT day so that the charges would hit and did. My BCP said the closing date was the 18th but they actually closed on the 19th and so that charge hit.
