Interesting- for what it's worth, my Dollar Tree store down the street accepts Amex, and was my first Amex purchase to be honest haha. I was like "so...do you guys accept Amex?"
I think ended up purchasing a couple bags of potato chips. No FR or anything.
Might be a store-wide thing. For instance, the big grocery store WinCo (sorta like Costco but less in bulk) here doesn't accept ANY credit cards to avoid fees. Cash or debit only. A friend in Redding, CA says it's all accepted at her WinCo.
At a surface level, it's almost kind of a loss in my eyes- you're losing out on more clientele if you shoo away folks with CC's. I think Amex stated somewhere that cardmembers spent a certain percentage more in general too, compared to those not using a credit card, or Visa/Mastercard.
