amex use locations

Postby Kaiokenryu » Tue Jul 16, 2013 9:40 am

This may have been discussed before. I am curious do any of us members think twice about where our card is used? I'm not talking about lack of amex acceptance......I mean the shopping tier of the merchant.

For example:

Dollar tree doesn't accept dollar does.

When I need cleaning supplies I tend to go to dollar tree b/c they have name brands at ridiculously low prices. Since they accept amex....I. choose to patronize them for personal reasons mentioned in other threads.

However.... ..

I don't want my history of purchases to look like I have lost a job or am having financial problems....this isn't true. My issue is that I know that a penny saved is a penny earned. I know amex has a filter that makes assumptions about your lifestyle. This is why i didnt apply for the platinum or gold or green. I know my financial lane and i am not the customer for thse cards yet. But...I also understand my card and how to use it better than I did 6.5 years ago. I haven't had a problem yet....not trying to start none......won't be

That's the thing about can make you paranoid....

Am I?

I think you are being a bit paranoid. I don't think there is anything to worry about because I've used my Amex everywhere in NYC including Family Dollar. My friend says that all that they really care about is that that you use the card as much as possible and pay it off. And to tell the truth that's where it lies. I don't see the point of you having a PRG or Platinum and you use it once every 6 months or something to that nature.
Wells Fargo Platinum 2.100 (5/2011-cld 7/12/14)
AmEx Platinum (6/12)
Barclays Apple (6/12)
AMEX Gold Delta (5/13)
Marriott Rewards (7/14)

My credit score

Interesting- for what it's worth, my Dollar Tree store down the street accepts Amex, and was my first Amex purchase to be honest haha. I was like " you guys accept Amex?"

I think ended up purchasing a couple bags of potato chips. No FR or anything.

Might be a store-wide thing. For instance, the big grocery store WinCo (sorta like Costco but less in bulk) here doesn't accept ANY credit cards to avoid fees. Cash or debit only. A friend in Redding, CA says it's all accepted at her WinCo.

At a surface level, it's almost kind of a loss in my eyes- you're losing out on more clientele if you shoo away folks with CC's. I think Amex stated somewhere that cardmembers spent a certain percentage more in general too, compared to those not using a credit card, or Visa/Mastercard.
Currently: American Express Blue Sky, American Express Zync, Chase Freedom Visa, Capital One Newcomers--->converted to Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard NO AF

I don't. It's only whether the merchant accepts AmEx or not that matters to me.
