The cleverness of people

Postby MemberSince99 » Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:23 pm

Sometimes I simply marvel at how clever people can be at getting what they want. Case in point - a guy couldn't get approved for the BCE which he wanted on the FICO forum. But no worries, he figured out a very clever way around it. Copied his posted and pasted below for your reading enjoyment, you have to give this one credit:

I noticed many on here can't get approved for BCE or the preferred version due to it's much stricter underwriting elements. I applied twice, once right after I got approved for the PRG charge card and about a 40 days ago, denied both instances mainly due to "too many inquires" and "too few accounts being paid as agreed". Then I saw some old posts on this site and another credit card community blog about product conversions. I saw a few people as recently as 2012 were able to convert their Delta Skymiles card to a Blue Cash/Sky card. So I figured I could apply for the Delta Card, hopefully get approved and then convert it sometime in the future. I applied online and I was instantly approved for the Delta Skymiles, about 7 days later my Delta card arrived. Before I activated it, I call the customer support number on the back and asked if I could do a product change. He said "yes". I asked him I wanted the Blue Cash (not preferred). He went to convert it but then said the system won't allow it since it was too new. He said to call back a few days after the card was activated and have it changed, he then activated the Delta card for me. Yesterday I called in for the product change, in within in 2 minutes my card was changed and the agent said my new Blue card should be at my place in 7 days. Today my Amex account now shows the Blue Cash. Not sure if Amex knows about this "loophole" but for those of you who really want a good Amex revolver and can't get one, I think this will work for you.

Honestly, I've thought of doing this once I'm in a position to app for an Amex. It'd be nice to have one, and the BCE/BCP is a good one to choose, if you aren't going for a charge card. I don't fly a lot, so the Delta is pretty useless to me. However, I have heard it's easiest to get approved for. Maybe in December and then another in January with backdating :D

Now that's a crafty one LOL...

I have heard and see many time on forums that the Delta was the easiest revolver to get approved for is this true and why?

Apparently it is true. I have no idea why. But given how easy it is to PC to what you really want, maybe it's pointless to do it that way. It does seem like a loophole if you can't get initially approved for the card but you can PC to it right away from something else. But hey, why not?

Haha, I read that thread as well. When I talked to them, they told me that if I were to be approved for a revolver that I would not be able to PC it to the BCE or another revolver, it has to be on the same class of cards (I.E. Delta Gold to Delta Plat..etc.) But good for the people who are able to get it through that way as well.

Yeah I read about that. I'm cool with my Delta for now and though people are finding these loophole, eventually Amex will catch on to it and change policy.
