Concierge on PRG

Postby mdl28 » Sun Jul 07, 2013 7:14 pm

Called my Amex gold concierge service yesterday Saturday, July 6 to help me find a hotel. It took over 10 min's for the concierge to get on the line. When he does come on the line he was very put off with my request to help me find a hotel. I had to convince him to try. All in all nothing was done. I decide to give Chase sapphire prefr'd a call and within a minuet I am connected to concierge and a man named Jack comes on. He goes above and beyond to locate me a hotel last minuet during 4th of July weekend on the beach. We got the hotel and he went as far to ask me if I was hungry and needed some suggestions for dinner. Chase put Amex to shame this time around. Thanks again to Chase

Ahhhh this topic always interest me and there are many of them regarding amex's tiered concierge services. They range from good to awful. North American cs agents to third world country call centers.

This all based on the card you hold.

Amex should seriously look at addressing this matter.

Chase has excellent customer service across the board, from what I've seen. Even their debit card customer service isn't totally useless. Also, I've been impressed more and more by Citi's Diamond Preferred concierge service. They're getting a lot better the more I use them, and seem to be pretty good with dining/entertainment questions.

They made all the inquiries I had about a 4th of July party, suggested restaurants and everything just as a backup in case it rained. They went above and beyond what I'd expect for a no AF card. AMEX needs to raise the bar on the service for less than Platinum, from what I've heard.
Scores on the mend...
FICO: 654 (7/2017, AMEX), Vantage: 663 (CK)
Cards I Use Amex Premier Rewards Gold, Discover IT, Capital One QuickSilver MC, Amex Gold Delta (for the free bag)
Sock Drawer Chase Amazon, AE Visa, CareCredit, several store cards for util padding
Next Card Amex Everyday

Nor did I assumed that it was just regular customer service with everything else and concierge with Platinum/Centurion. That's why they couldn't really help you with that situation. Though I think they all should be equipped for it though.
Wells Fargo Platinum 2.100 (5/2011-cld 7/12/14)
AmEx Platinum (6/12)
Barclays Apple (6/12)
AMEX Gold Delta (5/13)
Marriott Rewards (7/14)

My credit score
EQ: unknown
EX: 776
TU: 774

CDP's concierge never got back to me regarding my request. It has been almost a month.

I'm thinking he's referring to AMEX Travel if on a Gold/PRG. I have about 30 different AMEX numbers programmed in my phone. With both PRG and Business Platinum I've experienced a huge discrepancy in service. There's a huge difference between Card Services (American Express Centurion Bank) (for disputes, account information, etc), AMEX Travel (separate company aka American Express Travel Related Services) (any AMEX card) and the different facets of AMEX Concierge (Platinum/Centurion only) (dining, platinum/centurion travel, Fine Hotels & Resorts, etc).

I've typically had excellent and I mean excellent service from Gold Card Customer Service and Fine Hotels & Resorts.

The Platinum Concierge has been hit or miss in that they can either get me a great reservation, or have never heard of the town I'm visiting (pronounced Tucson "tux-uhn"). With Platinum Concierge though they are always incredibly professional, sending follow up emails with additional helpful information, sometimes they simply aren't effective.
