Thinking About Hilton Surpass

Postby ksy » Sun Jul 07, 2013 11:14 am

I have had Green for a year and just upgraded to PRG last week. I travel a lot and always stay in Hilton hotels so the surpass is very intrusting to me. Does anyone have this card and how do you like it? Also I have 5 inquires on my report all but one over a year old and it will be a year July 26th. My score last mo was 718. Thanks advance.

I suggest you look at the Citi Hilton Reserve card. Permanent HHonors gold status as long as you hold the card instead of one year of status and two free weekend nights instead of bonus points, plus similar bonus categories.

Much better card, in my opinion.

I have looked at at and agree its a great card.

The gold status doesn't mean a lot to me as I stay enough each year to maintain Diamond VIP with HH. The over all points are what I am looking at I use them for my wife and I to travel. Also I don't have a relationship with Citi I got offers from them weekly for thank you and simplicity. Does anything know about the requirements?

With the bonus the card is well worth it for the first year but most advise moving to the no AF version for year two and beyond. YMMV though.

If you stay at Hilton a lot and plan to use all your points toward Hilton you can probably make it worth the AF. If you ever transfer the points you will most assuredly lose out.

The only way to make sure it is worth it is to use your points only on properties that are point bargains and utilize the 5th night free...this takes some research and planning but if done correctly you can really score.

Rockyrock is right. I totally forgot about the AXON awards. Here's what you do: get the Citi Reserve and fee-free Hilton Amex now - there should be a 50k point signup bonus floating around. Upgrade to the Surpass at 13 months for extra bonus points. Then, downgrade again when the fee comes due. Keep the Reserve.

Look into HHonors devaluation before you get any Hilton card. From what I have read, they are hardly worth it anymore.

Amex SPG in my opinion. Points have good value (~2.5c) and there is a wide selection of hotels to choose from.
