There are two "brands" of American Express cards. I am NOT referring to Charge Cards vs Revolving Cards. I am referring to American Express "namesake" cards, which are billed by American Express, and American Express "network" cards, which are billed by a second and sometimes third party.

I have the Citi AAdvantage American Express card. American Express licenses their network to companies like Citi, Bank of America, FIA card services, etc. I know it is a select few, but there are multiple American Express network cards out there that are only accepted where AMEX is accepted, but billed by Citi or Bank of America.
