BCE Payment

Postby WildBill » Fri Jun 14, 2013 11:48 pm

May be no big deal and I'm just curious, why when I make a payment for my AMEX BCE do I get an email thanking me for my payment on "OPTIMA Card"? What is Optima?

Wow that's weird. You've never heard of the Optima card? But they think you have one. Did you ever have an old Amex many years ago? Or any charge offs with them?

The Optima card is kind of their "rebuilder" card for people to get their foot back in the door with Amex. It started many years ago as a regular card, and was dropped from that role and eventually became offered to people who had charge offs with Amex as part of their "Oasis" program. Basically you paid Amex what you burned them for and they gave you an Optima card with I think 50% of that limit. It never grew from there, and I heard they would not offer you other cards if you had an Optima - you had to close the Optima first and wait a bit then apply.

So I'm thinking either you had an Amex before from the way distant past, or there is some massive mistake where they think you have an Optima card. It shouldn't say you have an Optima - I have a BCP and I have never seen anything about this card in the email I get for making payments on it - they thank me for making payments on my Blue Cash Preferred.

There is a link to more information about the Optima on this site, you might want to take a quick look, but that is strange:

It could just be a glitch on their end. I remember someone posting here they applied for an Amex card (i think it was bcp) and when they got approved, they got an email congratulating them on the Optima card. He called Amex and they said the approval was indeed the bcp he applied.

It's a glitch. I have a new Costco TrueEarnings card and just signed up for paperless. The confirmation email referred to the TrueEarnings card as an Optima.

Optima was the first revolving credit card amex ever offered. Kind of makes me think that's what the internal systems call revolving cards, if the name is overridden....

No, I never had another AmEx card. I called today and explained what happened. They seemed to take it seriously and put me in touch with tech support. Tech support apologized and said they'd fix this in 24-48 hrs. The lady explained it is a server error that happens to some people and try are working to correct it.

It's a glitch I suppose. I got approved for the Amex Blue and I signed up for paperless and received an email stating I had a Optima CC. I was confused as well.
