Centurion lounges

Postby DoingHomework » Fri Jun 07, 2013 12:25 pm

Anybody heard anything about Amex's new Centurion lounges? Apparently the only one so far is at LAS. But they seem to have found a way to tick off everyone including their Centurion card holders. Plats must pay $50 per person per entrance just like everyone else AND the lounge is impossible to get to for most people because of security. You would think they would have thought the whole thing through a little better.

Lol...yes I heard about it. Got an email with the announcement and was like "whipee."

How would Centurion members get pissed off? Wouldn't this be their ultimate go-to lounge free of charge? It kinda sucks Platinum's will have to pay, but whatever.

What I'm more curious about is Amex being removed from some airline carrier's lounges for whatever reason. I usually fly US Airways, Delta and AA, so generally don't have a problem as they all accept Platinum.

I'll be doing some international travel next year and hope my Priority Pass lounge access actually pulls through and works as advertised.
AmEx Platinum 2009 & Blue Cash $3.5K Delta Gold $2K
BofA BankAmericard $6K | Chase[/i] Sapphire Preferred $10K & Amazon $1.5K Freedom $2.2K | CACU Platinum $13K
Discover Cashback $8.5K & It $6K | Citi Simplicity $5.6K & TY $4.3K

Priority pass is just fine outside of the US, I have used mine in London Gatwick, Malaga Spain and a few others. PP is useless in the USA normally :P
Amex UK Platinum Charge Card
Amex Blue Cash USA
Amex US Gold Corporate Card
World MasterCard Capital One UK (Free abroad + Cashback + Free Cash Withdrawals with no interest)

Platinums are ticked because they have to pay the same as the lowest tiers. Some Cents are annoyed because the lounge is in a section of the airport that can't be reached without getting security to let you through a special door. They let some people through and not others so there is a kind of discrimination happening. I've heard it is nice but no better than the United lounge which is fere for many of us and about half the price of the Cent lounge for almost anyone.

That's exactly what has some people ticked off!

Personally, I go to Vegas about once every 2 years on United. I am a member of the United lounge so the AMEX lounge is nothing I would use. I am just amused at how badly Amex seems to have screwed this up.

People getting ticked off by this is just plain childish.

Good on you for getting free passes
