Went for the BCP

Postby MemberSince99 » Sat Jun 01, 2013 10:06 am

I thought about it, and decided that no matter what happened, I'm willing and able to live with the results of my decision to app for the BCP now.

I half expected a decline, but I app'd using the link from this site (kind of a way to pay back) and got the under review message. Later an email came in saying it was approved.

So I called and checked the limit. 2000. That works for me, because in 61 days you can request a 3X limit increase then every 6 months after that. So potentially it can be 6k in August. Works for me.

And someone will say well you closed Discover for a 3k limit. Yep, I did. Not to rehash but I know someone will mention it - if I could run money through that and get a CLI (I tried a few times and that never worked) I would have done that, but they never gave me a CLI before, so I know better with them. Is their CS great? Yep. Are their rotating rewards terrific and do they have a great online mall? Yep. Wish it was different but it is what it is.

So, that is that. I wasn't seeing a reason to wait, especially if it is backdated which it should be. You might argue that well if I had waited 6 months possibly I would have gotten a higher limit. Yes that's entirely possible, however in a couple of months it could also be higher, and 6 months after that which is two months after the app was going to be, it could be a lot higher yet.
So I agree it's possible, but there is no way to know for sure.

Anyway never say never with this stuff. I won't even say I'll never have a Discover, it just won't be in the near term unless something really weird happens.

Congratulations on the BCP. What is significant about this card? I just got approved for the Delta Gold but might think about PC when the free first year is up. Did you also get your backdate like you wanted?

AmEx Platinum (6/12)
Barclays Apple (6/12)

The 6% groceries 3% gas and dept stores matches my spending perfectly in terms of rewards. Even with the fee I'll come out ahead.

Yes I got the backdate on the Gold card.

Congrats on the new card. I completely see your meaning on keeping the BCP over the IT card. The BCP has better rewards for everyday spending, and I'd recommend it to anyone over the IT card and Freedom card except in the 5% gas quarter. AMEX rewards good customers with good limits. Then again, they have a LOT more assets upon which they can lend to their customers. AMEX may be picky about customers, but they really aren't all that conservative--they don't have to be, because of their pickiness with customers.

Discover is a good lender with CS I've gathered is on par with AMEX, but their credit limits are a mystery to anyone outside the company.

99, considering you just survived a brush with the Amex Bear, I'd be careful about CLI's too soon, for fear of poking the Amex Cub (read: financial review)...

Chase: United MileagePlus Club, Sapphire Preferred, Amazon Rewards

Personally, I wouldn't worry about that until you start asking for CLIs to 20K+.

Congratulations on your BCP! That's a great card that I'd like to have!
