Close ZYNC or Keep Open?

Postby websteth » Fri May 31, 2013 4:30 pm

So, I just got hit with my AF for my Zync. $25 isn't much but I figured I would ask. I have a Platinum which is my main card and a couple other AMEX revolvers. I don't really use my my Zync much anymore now that they have killed all of the packs. My question is, is it worth loosing the card on my report or not? This card I used to make a pretty good size purchase when I got my new car and it is reporting as that it had a high balance much higher than my current platinum. Also, it adds another card to my account that says since 2003.

So, do I close it or pay the AF? Thoughts?

Is your Platinum backdated to the Zync date? If so, it shouldn't much matter about closing the Zync, as you seem to have enough cards to make up for it. I'd suggest adding a BCE in its place, as the rewards are decent.

I see no point in keeping a card with an AF if you don't use it. Besides, worst case scenario: you close the Zync and your AAoA drops. It should still report as a positive account for a while, right? And even if it doesn't help you, how much older can your other accounts be?

The extra back dated account should be worth the 25 bucks alone just for that. I realize it's kind of worthless besides that though.

Yea that's why I'm on the fence. I recently just closed my SPG Amex which I didn't use this year as much as I did last. Wasn't worth the AF for that. ZYNC is the odd ball out though since it's not a huge price but, it's got the bulk of my history.

I recently checked into a Hyatt at the Club Level. The concierge commented that he has never seen a "white amex" before. Gold going to get cancelled and holding on to the white as I am racking up points for the next few yrs.
For anyone that still has the zync, keep it. Anyone can get green, gold, or plat. Besides the point transfers or express pts, there is really no big difference.
Prestige will be huge. Love the have the red one as well

The Red one was issued in the UK a couple years back. They donated 1% or 1.25% after $5000/yr spent to fight HIV and malaria. I am sure you have seen Product (Red) somewhere before.

I would keep it to help your AAOA. I have a $29 AF Cap1 card I keep only because I've had it since 1999. I hate giving those a$$ clowns at Cap1 free money but at the end of the day it is a satisfying exchange relationship.

Yea, that's kind of my thought. And, it is cool looking being all white and blue. :)
