When I last had charge cards I was able to get approved for 5k. Today I tried it and it said it was not approved at 5k. I tried 4k that was approved.

So I guess I have some spending to do on that card.

no honestly, I actually can't on a monthly basis as I can't pay my rent with the card (they don't take Amex they take Visa, MC and Discover, wish they took Amex!). But I can pay most of my other bills with it.

Just gotta get the 3k spending in the first 3 months on the CSP for the 40k bonus points in first. I'm over halfway there so after that I can put things on the Amex. And the CSP will pay the rent.

Man I'm loving these new cards.

I can pay my rent with any major credit card; however, they charge a 3% fee. That would negate any 1% "other" category spending reward. Wish there was a 5% rent category! Ha. Anyway, I've considered using my Hyatt visa to pay the rent because, even though I'd be charged a fee, I'd be getting the points (rent + the fee cost) towards hotel room rewards. Thoughts on using the Hyatt card for rent, anyone?

^Only do it if those points are worth significantly more than 3%. Now that Cash+ Bill Pay is gone, I don't think there is a card that gives 5% on rent unless its coded as a hotel purchase. You could get a 2% on everything card, but it wouldn't justify a 3% surcharge on that purchase.

A room at the Hyatt going for $159 to $179 (sometimes more) can be had for 5,000 points. At $5,000 spending, 3.5% back equals $175. Doing the math, I'm thinking it would benefit me if for no other reason I would rack up approximately 850 points a month just in rent payment. Granted the value would be close to a wash, maybe slightly better than the 3% surcharge, but if I'm getting 10,200 points a year just for paying my rent - 2 free nights - vs paying no 3% surcharge and getting no two free nights from it. I think I just answered my own question. Pay the surcharge and get the 2 free nights from it.

Hey Member, how do you pay your rent with a credit card? I've been trying to figure that out?

My place only lets us pay with Visa or MC and they add 5% I wish I cloud use my AMEX too. It would so help with the promotions. Trying to spend 2000$ on a charge card takes some careful planing. haha
