Current Zync users can now upgrade charge cards?

Postby ivotedale » Sat May 11, 2013 9:11 pm

I believe this topic has been discussed on the surface recently, but thought I'd share some insight on upgrading the Zync card, since it wasn't upgradeable before.

I sent a message via Twitter to @askamex about upgrading, and prompted me to send a direct message via my account on amex's website. I did, and a few minutes later I was shown this exact message, word for word:

Hi Dale,

At this time you can change your Zync Card to an American Express Green Card which has a $95.00 annual membership fee, an American Express Gold Card which has a $125.00 annual membership fee, a Premier Rewards Gold Card which has a $175.00 annual membership fee or a Platinum Card which has a $450.00 annual membership fee.

To compare Card benefits, please visit: americanexpress.com/apply

Please do not hesitate to respond if you need further assistance or have any additional questions. It is my pleasure to assist you.

Sincerely,

Beth Henry

So by this, or at least until I actually do a PC to another charge card, it's safe to say you can upgrade. I had the green at one point, but cancelled it since I was working on other signup bonuses for most of the last couple years. I'm considering a Gold since I'm looking back into travel again, but the AF of the Zync is still pretty good for what I use it for anyway.

Thoughts? Are you guys looking into upgrading as well, or staying in the Zync realm for awhile?

What are you planning to use the card for? That'll pretty much determine which is the best upgrade route for ya.

At a quick glance I probably won't upgrade right away. I was just thinking about my spending, and most of that goes to eating/restaurants, which the PRG card covers 2x pts @ $175/yr.

On the other hand, I may just upgrade my Blue Sky to the preferred version when it hits the year mark for $75, saving a hundred bucks over the PRG. I'd probably fare better with the 2.66% effective cashback with that.

Like many others here, I may just keep it hanging on for legacy purposes for now.

Being the devil's advocate.... let me throw this thought in....

Sometimes opportunity strikes only once. Having said that, would you now consider taking the upgrade?

NO!!! There is no other way. Everyone only has once crack at bat. IF you are lucky you may get a second chance.

I try to make sure I get the most of my opportunities.... there are no second chances in my book.

@Irvine: that's an interesting question. Send them a secure message via your online account- they've always gotten back to me within a 24 hr period, if not sooner, with helpful information.

Part of me says Amex would allow the upgrade, just to make the Zync extinct- not to mention more of an annual fee stipend to them.

I'm still personally on the fence though between my Blue Sky---> Blue Sky Preferred, as opposed to getting something like the PRG.
