Just to add/confirm the info in this thread. I was just now able to contact Amex via their new chat service and upgrade my Zync to a Green with no trouble at all. The rep even said that the annual fee was $55. Most likely just a discount on the first year.

Thoughts? Are you guys looking into upgrading as well, or staying in the Zync realm for awhile?

Stay in the Zync world! There remains the possibility that the Zync/Unicorn is NOT dead, that it may be re-introduced with new benefits beyond what was offered before. You could simply apply for a different charge card, say a Green, have the Green and Zync combo, and get the back dating from the Zync to the Green. If/when AMEX decides what the true fate of the Zync will be, and I believe that they plan to re-introduce it, you'll have 2 cards with benefits.

Is there a reason to get the Amex Green? It looks like just another 1% card.

+1 I almost applied for Zync a few years ago when I was looking to get my first AmEx and now I wished I had gone with it instead of PRG. I saw one a while back at a coffee shop being used to pay for coffee by this girl in front of me and it was super cool. Today I'd have my Plat but I'd pay to keep the Zync too, just because it looks so cool. Ridiculous, yes, but oh well.

According to threads at MyFICO, the $500/PSL card is NOT elligible to PC. I think I also saw that on the AMEX forum.

That's super arbitrary; it's almost as if the Zync $500 is its own card. I still don't understand some of Amex and their approval 'credentials' - I've seriously heard of folks w/ years of great credit, no baddies, several cards, no debt/etc, given only $500 limits. For whatever reason I'm not sure, but that sucks.

I'm also pseudo disappointed that Small Business Sat is only reimbursing $10 vs $25 last year, essentially taking care of the Zync annual fee- I don't think I've used it in a few months. I understand the point of Small Business Saturday is supporting the businesses, but I digress.

My Blue Sky still impresses folks around town if we're talking 'Wow' factor, and still makes circles around the Zync as far as points/rewards potential goes.

Kinda bored tonight; was just checking the Amex cards section and noticed how tight the layout is- it's almost begging for a new card to vacate the area:

Image

The layout used to be a little 'messier' w/ other cards in the mix, but with the elimination of the Clear, Zync, and others it looks pretty uniform, sans the last space in the MR Cards section.

Still crossing fingers for something new and exciting..
