Z06Biker wrote:Yup, Delta is still the partner airline, but Amex platinum and centurion holders lost access to the United Club lounges. The worry now is that they may lose both the American Airlines and US Airways lounge access, since they're merging, and since Citi already has a premium partner card with AA.

This could be the reason Amex is starting to roll out their new Centurion lounges (Vegas is the first to have one); to maintain travel value with their prestige cards. Problem is, as it currently stands, only Centurion holders get access to it for free. All other Amex cardmembers have to fork over $50/person for access.

Blah.

Not sure about US centurion holders but in Canada we were all provided Priority Pass Access which gives you access to all those lounges mentioned and then some.

But then, if you fly BusinessFirst or First then it's a moot point as you get access automatically.

Seems like the MR programme is getting worse and worse. I was able to score some free flights from it, but, it doesn't seem to be worth it any more. Switched to cash back. Simple and no hassles. Especially considering that reward flights never had the best of options.

PP has a good international network but in the US they only have 35-40 cities. Having the domestic carrier lounge access is still a great perk and one of the main reasons I maintain my Platinum card.

Plus if I am not mistaking, you have to pay for your guests with PP—not an issue for business travelers but could get expensive for family travelers. :money:

PP is still growing and I have no doubt it will one day be great, for now though I love my Sky Club access :D

You are quite lucky. My membership indicated I'm free and each guest is $27. Maybe the rules vary by country. My membership is called PP Select and isn't even listed on the PP website for the USA; the highest level listed is "Prestige" and guests are $27 each even on that plan...

The only purchases I put on the Platinum now are major expenses, either because a) the card has the highest insurance protections of all Amex's, and b) the NPSL factor. Otherwise, unless it's a category expense, I put it on my SPG card since 1 starpoint = 3 MR points. Seriously, that's Amex's own conversion rate. Insanely stupid.
AMEX: PRG Gold, Business Simply Cash, Business Costco, BCE.
Chase: United MileagePlus Club, Sapphire Preferred, Amazon Rewards
Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard
HSBC Cash or Fly World Mastercard
USAA World Mastercard, USAA Platinum Mastercard
Wells Fargo Business Platinum
USC Credit Union Mastercard

Z06Biker wrote:This is super disappointing news. As if it already wasn't bad enough that they've lost their relationship with United and chances are, with AA and US Airways soon, too (with their merger and with Citi's already iron-grasp of AA).

I can't imagine AMEX will Discontinue their relationship with American and US Airways because of Citi. Citi offers an AAdvantage American Express card, so I'm thinking there is some kind of cordiality there. Additionally, losing The New American would leave Amex with just Delta plus the international partners, making the platinum & centurion lounge benefit worthless. I'm thinking they'll work it out with Citi.
