What's the best course of action for my Zync

Postby framerate » Sun Apr 28, 2013 12:19 am

If I upgrade my ZYNC to a Gold Rewards, is it ever possible to get things like the 25k points for spending $3k the first 3 months or the 15k points for spending 30k in a year (bonus)? Or are these new sign up bonuses?

Also, if I cancel my ZYNC, I understand that if I wait 3 months I can get "new signup" bonuses, but then I lose my member date, right?

Any help on the "best" course of action here would be great!

apply for a new amex charge card, once the card is in your hand kill the zync card.

sign up bonuses are strictly for new accounts. not just with amex, but with any CC issuer
Junk I use:
AmEx Platinum for Mercedes Benz from, 75k spending ability
AmEx Everyday 8.99% + Prime, 44k CL
Chase Ink Bold, 35k
Chase Freedom (Converted from WaMu VISA) from '07, 5.99% + Prime, 30k CL

Junk I don't use
BoA Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards (converted from World Points MC) from '07, 7.9% Fixed APR, 30k CL
Discover IT (Converted from Discover More) from '08, 5.74% + Prime, 20k CL
AmEx Clear from '07, 4.99% + Prime, 10k CL
All 3 credit scores are over 800.

I have a zync myself and decided to get the PRG card yesterday. I couldnt get it upgraded because I needed to wait at least 1 year before being able to upgrade it (some law about annual fees). Anyways, I'm too impatient so I decided to apply for the PRG and was instantly approved. Once I get it, I'll just cancel the zync. I dont think it should affect my credit since amex backdates .. although I could be wrong. Either way, it wouldn't make sense to keep it. Good luck!

Oh and about the sign up bonuses, you won't get them since you already have a NPSL card; at least that's what customer service rep told me.
Capital One Journey Student Rewards: $750 CL
AmEx Blue Cash Everday: $6,600 CL
Chase Slate: $900 CL
Chase Sapphire Preferred: $5,000 CL
Synchrony FInancial: $1,700 CL

Is there something I've missed recently? I've been hearing you can now "upgrade" your Zync to higher tier charge cards (most likely since it's discontinued) from a couple other users here.

I remember even making a call on the Zync line about a general question about MR points (I had the Green charge at one point) and the operator mentioned I could upgrade too to a higher level card- however, she didn't even have the knowledge that there was a "Blue standard" card that used MRE points. So I don't even know at this point.
Currently: American Express Blue Sky, American Express Zync, Chase Freedom Visa, Capital One Newcomers--->converted to Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard NO AF
