I agree. Too many cards don't help you. No matter what the mathematicians say about averages.

I too was declined for the 61 day CLI, yet two days after the denial I was approved for a Business Simply Cash with a CL of $5,600. Being a sole proprietor, they used all the same info as my personal cards. I'll never understand their reasoning.

Yeah. It was my second CLI attempt and obviously both denied yet approved for a new card with a decent limit? WTF?

I believe that getting a new card and getting a CLI have two different sets of requirements and are two different situations.
Wells Fargo Platinum 2.100 (5/2011-cld 7/12/14)
AmEx Platinum (6/12)
Barclays Apple (6/12)
AMEX Gold Delta (5/13)
Marriott Rewards (7/14)

My credit score
EQ: unknown
EX: 762
TU: 752

as mentioned before. AmEx no likey when person packs too much plastic.

want to make full use of your AmEx card? figure out which cards are actually worth keeping, kill the rest. don't hold more than 3 or 4. don't carry balances. hold back on credit applications for about a year then try again.
Junk I use:
AmEx Platinum for Mercedes Benz from, 75k spending ability
AmEx Everyday 8.99% + Prime, 44k CL
Chase Ink Bold, 35k
Chase Freedom (Converted from WaMu VISA) from '07, 5.99% + Prime, 30k CL

Junk I don't use
BoA Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards (converted from World Points MC) from '07, 7.9% Fixed APR, 30k CL
Discover IT (Converted from Discover More) from '08, 5.74% + Prime, 20k CL
AmEx Clear from '07, 4.99% + Prime, 10k CL
All 3 credit scores are over 800.

I got my 3x CLI with all of the cards, below, and a reported utilization of 1%. I'd guess it's more the overall balances carried than the number of accounts.

And I carry only 2-3 of them at a time. Some I rarely use, but hold for other reasons. For example, I never use the Hilton Amex, but I keep it for AXON award redemptions.

I wonder if asking for too many CLI's with Amex with result in the dreaded FR whereupon they need proof of your increased income to justify the increased spending power?

On the subject, if you requested a 50% CLI recently, not knowing about the 3x standard, can you go back and "double dip" or are you pretty much done for 6 months.
