Hello I hope I'm not double posting here. Trying to figure out this website.

Well I was just worried and thinking if my income at $90,300.00 would be too little to hold this card until my raise next year. So I guess I'm worrying too much over the annual fee then? Since I will be traveling 6 times a year I guess I could use the lounges if I have a layover of an hour. Would staying at nice hotels with the so called free upgrades really be worth it if its true? Anyone experience getting the free upgrades in resorts hotel when using the card?

I've read of one Person having an income of $30,000.00 having this card so I was curious as to how he manages to spend a lot on it per month if the card is for personal use? For me this card will be for personal use so ill only be buying plane tickets with it I'm not really much of a big spender so the usage will not be too heavy per month.

I thank you all for your replies.

Yes, yes and yes! Lounge access is a godsend. Hotel upgrades via FHR program is an allahsend. All in all, the card is ultimately a vishnusend.

My Plat is personal use and I am at about $56k. I probably spend $3k across my Amex and Chase cards a month and AmEx seems to have absolutely no issues with me and the Plat. I don't cook so the cards sees a lot of restaurant use day to day, and most of my travel is booked through AmEx. I think I've got 3 trips this year with FHR. Absolutely love the program.

You don't need to spend a lot on the Platinum. In fact, for the first year or so, I ONLY used it for travel planning. I carried the Gold and left the Plat in my travel wallet. AmEx didn't care at all. I probably put $500 a month on it now excluding travel expenses.

All I can say is the more you use it the more you will want to contunue to. I don't use all the features on my Cent but let me tell you, I have used quite a few of them and they are indeed handy.

Keep the Plat. It's a good card.

I have a Business Platinum AU Card and a Premiere Rewards Gold. I'm inclined to upgrade my PRG to a Personal Platinum in September. Why? The Platinum fee is $450, yes. But let's look at it. $200 airline credit. Hmm. So now the actual cost comes down to $250. Automatic SPG Gold Status: there's about $100 value PER STAY at SPG hotels if you think about what charges for late check-out or room upgrades would be. Down to $150, less than the $175 for the PRG. Airline Lounge Access AND Priority Pass, with Airport Lounge Access alone worth about $500. Oh, and then there's FHR (Fine Hotels & Resorts). Stayed at Bellagio in January 2012. Booked 2 rooms through FHR for $139 per night per room. Received a $100 Bellagio Spa Credit or $85 lunch credit PER ROOM, along with late check-out AND complimentary continental breakfast for 2 daily PER ROOM.

You get my point. Membership Rewards conundrum aside, the platinum card is worth it's weight in platinum...

Exactly. This is how I looked at it when I upgraded to Platinum from PRG last month. I still see the benefits far outweighing the annual fee because I will take advantage of them.

Guys & Girls.

Thank you so much for your inputs and experience with this card. You have been a fountain of information for me.

I'm going to keep it since due to my traveling I will be needing it so might as well take advantage and use the card what it was intended to be used for. Just wish I could get automatic upgrades to first class now and then. I mainly fly united to panama but may switch to American Airlines and I think with American it's a bit easier to get upgrades on flights.

Now I need to get a list of participating hotels that are part of the Amex fine hotels and resorts for the frequent room upgrades. I think I may start to like this card after all. I'm not interested in this cards so called "status" aura, but think this fit my needs more than wants.

Yeah I was kinda worried that if I did not spend much on it Amex would want to know what's going on. But at least they will see my flights will be booked with it. Thank much for sharing your experience with your card Scoach.
