Agree with Terry. AmEx, ING, Ally, and a few others offer decent return on savings accounts. I opened my AmEx savings a couple of years ago just as a holding spot for some money. It's fast, convenient, it the service seems about the same level as my platinum card service, which is to say it's excellent.

VERY pleased with it.
AmEx - Platinum, Gold, Bluebird
Chase - CSP, Freedom
HSBC - Orchard Bank (1999)

I'll also chime in it's a great acct. I've had it for well over a year and no issues.

I don't see Amex going down anytime soon, but yes they are absolutely FDIC insured. Website functionality is quick, easy, to the point.

If you haven't already, sign up! You can't go wrong with any online high-yield savings accounts either way, if you decide not to go w/ Amex.
Currently: American Express Blue Sky, American Express Zync, Chase Freedom Visa, Capital One Newcomers--->converted to Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard NO AF

How so? I have one I opened several years ago. I've only used the web interface. In what way is customer service useful?

I've had one for about 10 months. It's a good account, but don't expect an interface like you'd find at ING/Cap1 or Ally. It's pretty bare bones.

^ That's cool. I haven't heard/seen anything yet. But, I'm not planning on moving so the lack didn't completely bother me.

Never had a reason to call them. Online savings accounts are pretty simple critters. Which begs the question "What kinds of service would one call them about that wasn't an indicator of something more serious?
