Is Amex Clear discontinued?

Postby hematino » Fri Mar 29, 2013 10:37 pm

Logged on their website to pay my bill and noticed Clear is no longer listed. I found it by typing it into the search box, but they are no longer accepting new applications. Not that it was a fantastic card by any means, but with the Zync being discontinued and now the Clear possibly being continued, I wonder if Amex is going to come out with some new products?

Nice. I saw that too, no longer on the website. With that, I assume they're consolidating and then adding new products.

Yeah, you're right. I was mistaking it with the One card they had.

Yup, Clear no longer accepting applications. It, like the Zync (known in some circles as the Unicorn), continue to exist to current card holders, but no one else can get these elusive cards!
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!

Agreed. I still have my Zync active since it is a "unicorn" these days, though it's a shame it doesn't have any real rewards power (I guess it never really did, perhaps likewise w/ the clear). Although w/ the Small Business Saturday program occurring every year, it almost makes the Zync "free" with that $25 statement credit you get w/ each Amex you own.

I've since moved on to the Blue Sky, w/ no annual fee and anticipation of traveling in the next few years.

i tried to get my AmEx clear converted to a different card, no dice... they wont do it. i would LOVE to get my Clear converted to a Blue Cash Everyday card, but that's not an option.

the clear card only has one type of reward, they send you a $25 gift card every $2500 you spend. it was advertised as the card with no fees, which not true since it does charge a 3% foreign transaction fee.
Junk I use:
AmEx Platinum for Mercedes Benz from, 75k spending ability
AmEx Everyday 8.99% + Prime, 44k CL
Chase Ink Bold, 35k
Chase Freedom (Converted from WaMu VISA) from '07, 5.99% + Prime, 30k CL

Junk I don't use
BoA Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards (converted from World Points MC) from '07, 7.9% Fixed APR, 30k CL
Discover IT (Converted from Discover More) from '08, 5.74% + Prime, 20k CL
AmEx Clear from '07, 4.99% + Prime, 10k CL
All 3 credit scores are over 800.

i thought about it, but decided not to. my clear card has a ridiculously low APR and a good CL. i don't want to lose that. maybe they'll be able to convert it to something else in the future. besides, i wont be using it anyway. i charge everything to my freedom and sapphire cards.
