I haven't booked any international trips through Amex yet, but was also told that it wasn't necessary for me to do so in order to obtain a chipped card. I left town to go to a wedding (booked through Amex) over the weekend and I enjoyed the airport lounge access. I look forward to enjoying the perks of this card in my future travels. I also look forward to boozing it up on my flight to London and being reimbursed!
