UPDATE: I received my AU's Gold Card yesterday, although I still haven't received my Platinum Card. It did NOT come with the EMV chip like I was told it would. I'm a bit disappointed about being mislead. I plan on calling the Platinum # when the card gets here so I can talk with someone who hopefully knows what they're talking about.

2ND UPDATE: Got my Platinum today, and there's no EMV chip in it either. I'm not happy about this, and when I get a chance I plan on calling them to see what the problem is. I remember Sevenfeet or somebody having this same problem. I wonder why it's so difficult to obtain a chipped card.

For some reason, this is harder for them to do than it looks from a customer service standpoint. Just call the Platinum line, tell them the problem and they should send you a new card in a few days, or they might overnight it.

Card members who have demonstrated international travel from prior history are granted priority. So if you have never traveled overseas then your request may not be granted. When you book through their website and show you are going international, when you call asking for the EMV chip it's granted.

They will always automatically send non-EMV chips. Happened to me to. Once you receive your Platinum, you may call to have an EMV version overnighted. It's odd, but it took me 5 days to get the first Amex, and the EMV arrived 1 day after I called.

The agents probably didn't know what they were talking about, but AmEx will not issue EMV's initially.

This is what I was told when I called a few minutes ago. I was told that they will always send a non-EMV card initially. I was told I have to wait 10 days from the activation of my Platinum Card until they can issue me a new card with the EMV chip, so I have to call them back on the 4th. I told them that I am going overseas in a couple of months and they said it would be no problem for them to send me one.

I did learn that my AU's Gold Card will not be subjected to foreign transaction fees since it is tied to my Platinum account, which I was glad to hear. I was also told that there is not currently a way for her to receive a chipped Gold card, but eventually there will be according to the Platinum reps, which is not what I was initially told, but still suspected to be true.

I wasn't told any of this. I was told their system isn't capable of sending a chipped card for the initial card upon application/upgrade. I was told all I have to do is call back on the 4th and they'll send me one immediately.

Called yesterday and the chipped card is supposedly being overnighted and should be here today. Guess we'll see...

Did you book your trip through PTS so they can see it? If you are a new member to Platinum you will have to wait until the 4th. If you don't have anything booked then they have nothing to go on.

I got my chipped card overnighted and received it on the 5th. I haven't booked any international trips through Amex yet, but was also told that it wasn't necessary for me to do so in order to obtain a chipped card. I left town to go to a wedding (booked through Amex) over the weekend and I enjoyed the airport lounge access. I look forward to enjoying the perks of this card in my future travels. I also look forward to boozing it up on my flight to London and being reimbursed!
