Co-Partner for Amex

Postby Deighton » Tue Mar 19, 2013 3:16 pm

Hello everyone. I just recently got added to be a Co-Partner on my wife's business. Now my credit is kind of low, due to high credit to debt ratio. But I would like to apply for a Amex Business card. Now would I be able to get a business card, because its seperate from my personal credit? Or will it still be an issue? She had her business so far for 5 yrs now.

Well, for starters, you're a partner, not a co-partner.

Second, it appears that the business does not currently have an American Express account. If that's the case, and you apply for a business account with them, they will pull your personal credit report and see high utilization. You may get denied.

I suggest you focus on paying down the current debt, not obtaining new credit.

Business credit is tied to your SSN. It is really hard to get business credit from AMEX. Your wife may even have challenges.

Yes I have paid down debt. I owed about 4500 and paid 3200 on debt. So I will have more credit available
