How to backdate AmEx?

Postby ilikeme1 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 5:14 pm

Just applied and got approved for the Costco Amex! What department do I need to call to have it back dated to my Zync (preferably) or my BCP? I tried calling regular CS and they did not know what I was talking about.
AMEX BCP: 9K (2012) (every day expenses, gas, groceries, department stores)
AMEX Zync: NPSL (2011) (large expenses)
AMEX Costco: 4k (2013) (Costco, gas, and restaurants)
Discover IT: 5K (2010)
PenFed Plat Rewards Visa: 3K (2012) (Gas, Target)
USAA Plat MC: 7K (2010) (everyday expenses, places that do not take Amex or Discover)
US Bank Cash+: 7K (2012)
Target REDCard 3k (2013)

Wait until you have the card. It should say "Memeber Since XX" when you get it. Then if it's wrong, call them.

As cashback said, wait until you get the card. If they did it correctly (which they normally do) your card should state "Member Since 11" on the card. If it says "Member Since 13" then just call the number on the back of the card and let them know that you are an existing Cardmember from 2011. They should be able to change that for you right away.

Does your BCP say Member Since 12? That would should be 11 as well. The only issue you may encounter is the fact that supposedly regular AMEX customer service cannot see ZYNC accounts...a special department takes care of ZYNC accounts. My ZYNC was automatically "backdated" to 1999 when I opened it in 1/12 so their systems should be able to pick it up.

Please not call it backdating when you call AMEX...just let them know that your Member Since dates are incorrect (if they are incorrect) and that they should be 2011.

+1. AMEX WILL find you ! If you have a previous card, even one that was closed in...uhh...less than favourable circumstances, as long as you're not blacklisted, you'll backdate to your original card. However, some AMEX members (like me!) had cards that go back to the 70s, but AMEX couldn't find us (I was told those old cards are still on microfiche and they won't check those archives) so they will check the oldest date they can find for an initial card for you in their computerized databases.
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!
