amex credit line increase (word to the wise)

Postby craigm1 » Fri Mar 15, 2013 9:00 am

Last July, my limit on my blue cash was 25k asked for an increase to 35k they requested access to my tax returns so I went to 30k no problem. This week asked for increase to 35k again they again asked for tax returns, called the next day to go to 34k and just got increased today. Can anybody confirm 35k is where they want tax returns.

I have heard there is no set amount. It depends on the income you enter and if it changes by a lot they may request. Also anything over 24999 won't approve online. It seems for you it is 34999 that they want the Tax Returns. It depends on the card account I think...

People seem to think that tax returns are a big invasion of privacy. Really? These companies already have tons of information from us from our experience with them and other sources including recent credit reports (which I argue is often more intimate information than is in a tax return). Honestly there isn't much in my tax return that they don't already know outside of what I deduct for healthcare, childcare and charity. I fully expect Amex to ask me for tax information when I CLI later this year (my new BCP is at $20K now, and I may ask for $40K in 5 months instead of the 61 day window).

Discover IT ($4K)
