Going for the platinum

Postby Twisted Innovator » Thu Mar 14, 2013 7:57 pm

Been reading the forum and keep hearing that Amex will soft pull you for a denial and hard pull you for an approval. That's tight. So, I basically have nothing to lose by applying. Was going to apply for the PRG, but eff it....I'm going to go for the gusto and apply for the platinum. Never had an amex and not expecting to get approved for the platinum, but why not apply...it's only a hard pull if I get approved.

Side note: Fico is 742, 18% utilization, 7.9k highest limit card, credit history just over 10 yrs, no inquiries in the past year

Dang, I might as well stay in the garden....until I get my utilization down. Or, just go for the green or gold. I have one more card to pay off. It will be done next month and my credit score will be higher. However, I'm going to leave a 4% utilization...before applying.

Green, Gold, Platinum have the same underwriting standards. If you can get one, you can get them any. It's your choice of how much annual fee you want to pay vs benefits.

just wondering, why do you want the plat especially if you will be wasting 450$ a year, more than 1% of your annual income(after taxes). I mean unless your company flies you out alot it just seems like a waste, the prestige of the card is mostly gone. Its better to go with the prg if you dont have any better gas cards

Why do you guys question that? If the guy wants to pay $450 for the platinum, let him. That is not affecting you in any way whatsoever. I want the platinum card myself.
