Should I pull the trigger on PRG with Zync $500 limit?

Postby prady » Thu Mar 07, 2013 1:25 pm

TU FICO - 691 (thru walmart)
EQ FICO - 691 (thru my fico)
EX FAKO - 770 (thru Credit Sesame)

I have oldest inquiry on EX and TU from Dec 2011 and EQ has 1 inquiry from Schwab bank from this January.

My GF opened Discover IT credit card with limit 2500 and i'm authorized user on it so it shows up on my account from Feb 2013. I don't know if it will be counted as a negative thing as it shows up as a new account on my report.

1 Charge off, paid and settled for Crap1 from 2008. and everything else is clean.

Do I even stand a chance as if Amex doesn't think i'm good enough to get NPSL on Zync which I have for 13 months then why will they approve for PRG?

It won't hurt to try. You will not get a hard pull from Amex unless you are approved for the PRG since you have the Zync. So give it a shot. It's worth the INQ if you get approved, right?

This is one of the benefits once you get in the door with Amex. You can apply every 30 days if you get declined. I say go for it!

Is that "only soft pull on decline" still applicable? I've heard Amex has changed its policy and now they do a hard pull for any app irrespective ur a current customer or not

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case nowadays. I applied for the Green card back in January and they pulled Experian even though they declined me.

I've read a number of posts on the FICO forum where people say that if you have the 500 limit Zync Amex won't give you another card. Of course as always YMMV,. but that's what I've seen a number of people saying.

Approved for PRG with 50k points promo and 14 day notice for Platinum. Apped for both at the same time. Should I call for recon for Platinum?

Congrats on getting the PRG along with having the Zync card that has the $500 limit. This should finally put to rest the misinformation that's out there regarding the Zync cards with limits and applying for other Amex products!!

I hope you get the Plat as well. Don't forget about signing up for Global Entry ($100 fee will be paid by Amex). I just signed up last week and waiting for my interview (assuming I'm approved for it!)..

Wow! Congrats again!! You are seriously my hero and mentor :) Those are my same plans. Just have to wait a bit more to age my Zync card (1 year is up mid-June). Both cards will backdate to 1984, so I'm very excited about your news as it's just a matter of time before it happens for me.

Oh, I got approved for Global Entry this week. Have to do an interview at SFO, but I couldn't get an appt until June (not a problem..My next international trip is in November).

Congrats again, Prady!!
