Membership Rewards Express gone? Am I crazy?

Postby ivotedale » Fri Feb 15, 2013 12:25 am

I was just reminiscing on the popular "Zync is gone" topic, and thought about the Membership Rewards Express point system as opposed to the standard MR pt values- then I began to creep on the standard Amex Blue (not the cashback blue versions, rather the standard MR Blue, in the charge cards category) and could have sworn they used to only be capable of MRE points, not MR. Now it seems as if it's redeemable for normal MR point values?

Was that the case? Did they 86 the MRExpress? I know there were only a couple cards at the time that, by themselves, could only net he/she Express points, not the standard-more-powerful MR points.

Alongside that, what IF those who still have a Zync are able (or will soon be able) to redeem at normal point values (and/or transfer to participating airline programs)? I have both the Green and Zync currently, so I can't test that personally by looking at rewards options online right now.

Thoughts? Am I nuts for thinking this? Or have I just been gone long enough from the forum that I missed a huge detail (haha)?

I've had the standard Blue Card for about a year and it has always been a regular MR points. It's a revolver not a charge card, however. I've never heard of MR Express points but I've only been with Amex for about a year.

My Zync card still reflects MR Express online.
Looking to maximize credit, for myself and others.

My Blue and Zync both were on Membership Rewards Express. The only difference with the level of rewards is the redemption options or ratios. Since I added a Platinum, all of the three cards earn Membership Reward First points.

Interestingly enough, I tweeted @askamex about it and mentioned although the terminology is gone, the Zync and standard Blue are still redeeming at lower-tiered points instead of full MR points.

On another note, they've been promoting the Gold Delta, encouraging me to "upgrade" and apply for it. Not sure if it's a Zync-owner specified ad, or if they're pushing that more in general.

However, I went ahead and applied for the Blue Sky last night and was approved! Didn't get instant approval but upon checking online a few minutes after, I was good. Might just cancel my Green of one year since I don't really benefit from the frequent flier partners anymore.

My Blue and Zync earn Membership Rewards Express. They advertise on my online account management Membership Rewards, but when I actually go to the MR site, it clearly shows Membership Rewards Express. MEMBERSHIP rewards in green and express in blue.
