There's your problem. You added an hour to the rental time!

Maybe it gives better rates on the "Specialty" vehicles.

Maybe the discount applies to "Pay later at pickup" rather than paying online now.

I've generally found that the rental car discount from cards like the Amex Platinum (of which I carry one too) aren't as good as you might think. The best deal is a corporate code from one of the big consulting companies who send a lot of people on the road. I still use the one from the company I used to work at over a decade ago since I forgot it was in my profile. It still works and always gives me the best deals.
Cards:
American Express Platinum (NPSL)
Penfed Platinum Reward Visa ($28K)
Chase Freedom Visa ($25K)
Fidelity American Express ($20K)
American Express Blue Cash Preferred ($20K)
Bank of America Cash Rewards MasterCard ($20K)
Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
US Bank Cash + Visa Signature ($7K)
Discover IT ($4K)
