I am a Platinum card holder and on Saturday I received a new card with the chip without requesting it.

I think it looked cooler without the chip ...
My Wallet:

AMEX Gold Business - NPSL (obtained 2006; Backdated to 1989)
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $30,000.00 (Obtained 2012)

Haha! I thought I was the only one that hated the look of the chip. Looks way too European :)

NYC taxis all have card readers which I presume read EMV chips. One of the most annoying part of paying for cabs is their card readers being mounted too close to another object like the LCD monitor making it difficult to swipe, and I've had a lot of heated fights with cabs over the driver wanting me to hurry up and me telling them their equipment sucked :)

Here's a photo of a NYC taxi credit card machine.
It looks like it's just accepting mag stripes or RFID chips for now.

Taxis may begin accepting EMV chips soon.

Right, I was pretty sure that no taxis here accept EMV cards yet, but it looks, from that article, that it might be before 2015. Just didn't want Fartanywherecard to get too upset if the EMV card didn't work and the cab driver getting even more annoyed by this person who doesn't know how to swipe!

Well, pardon my ignorance. Thanks for clearing that up.

I wasn't trying to imply anything. Just responding to:

Presumably (from my experience of NYC taxis) the driver wouldn't want an explanation of why you were trying to enter a PIN, just **** the **** up and swipe ****" etc.

Haha you're definitely right. Cabbies know time is money. And no offense taken. :)

Got both new cards. Neither the Zync or BCP have chips. The BCP does have and RFID chip. The USAA MC also showed up and is full chip+pin.
Wallet:
AMEX BCP: 9K (2012) (every day expenses, gas, groceries, department stores)
AMEX Zync: NPSL (2011) (large expenses)
AMEX Costco: 4k (2013) (Costco, gas, and restaurants)
Discover IT: 5K (2010)
PenFed Plat Rewards Visa: 3K (2012) (Gas, Target)
USAA Plat MC: 7K (2010) (everyday expenses, places that do not take Amex or Discover)
US Bank Cash+: 7K (2012)
Target REDCard 3k (2013)

Haha I wouldn't worry about that soon. Once the USA has rolled out EMV no one will ever look at your card again. (Apart from the terminal :P)
Amex UK Platinum Charge Card
Amex Blue Cash USA
Amex US Gold Corporate Card
World MasterCard Capital One UK (Free abroad + Cashback + Free Cash Withdrawals with no interest)
