Hm... Looks like I spoke too soon. The card came in the mail today and it had no chip, so I called in to see what was up. Apparently, the first representative who spoke to me had bad information and the chip is only available for Platinum, Centurion, and Clear customers.

You mean you received the Zync and it did not have a chip? What about your BCP? Did that have a chip or have you not received it yet?

The rep that emailed me seemed knowledgeable that it was not available on Zync but it was available on my Blue. I just have not gotten around to calling.

This is mouth-watering. So USAA is doing Chip + PIN (instead of Chip + Signature)??? Thanks for sharing this info, it is great since a lot of the banks are no longer issuing press releases to announce their EMV cards.

The original rep told me that EMV was available for my Premier Rewards Gold and was not available for Gold Delta Skymiles. Today I got the new PRG card in the mail and it didn't have a chip, and when I called in I was told they don't have EMV for PRG cards yet. I just might email support to see if I don't get a different answer, but I wouldn't be surprised if today's rep was right--she explained that what the original rep did was set a preference for an EMV card then order me a new card, and I didn't get a chip because it's just not available.

Oh got it. AMEX and Chase need to step up their game with these EMV chips!

Darn. I was really hoping. I sent a secure message to see if I could get a chip on my BCE and was told the same as above. No dice.

I want a chipped amex but I don't have a use for a Platinum. I might get the PRG soon but I'm not sure yet.

I just spoke to Amex services and my next Platinum card renewal coming in two weeks should have the EMV chip. Apparently Amex has been sending out new cards with the chip system to some customers whose renewal dates aren't coming up soon at all in order to get the new, more secure cards into more members hands sooner. And if for some reason I'm told if I get a new card without the chip, they will overnight me a new one with the system.
Cards:
American Express Platinum (NPSL)
Penfed Platinum Reward Visa ($28K)
Chase Freedom Visa ($25K)
Fidelity American Express ($20K)
American Express Blue Cash Preferred ($20K)
Bank of America Cash Rewards MasterCard ($20K)
Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
US Bank Cash + Visa Signature ($7K)
Discover IT ($4K)

i called a couple of days ago to ask what is going on. the rep informed me that they are ONLY issuing the plat and cent cards with emv chips as of now. they are in the trial phase to see if there are any "hick ups" with the technology. once they find everything to be in order, they will expand to all of their cards

Just wondering, why would it be great in taxis?
