Given that Im a Full Time student with no employment, only 10 months of credit history, and only 19 years old (and thus affected by the CARD act) I was pleased but shocked to be instantly approved for my first non-student credit card that I applied for on my own (no parent guaranteeing it) and an Amex Revolver no less, which are supposed to be harder to get. I had to try for the backdating but it was surprising to be approved instantly and for a $2k limit!
I chose the Costco Amex because it was cobranded so presumably easier to get than the BCE and I wanted the backdating, which will increase the age of my oldest tradeline. I will use it for Costco purchases mostly, until I get a Fidelity Amex for that (which doesn't backdate), after which it will be used membership renewal, travel, and gas only I guess.
