High Activity = Better CLI?

Postby kcarter609 » Fri Jan 18, 2013 2:45 pm

Hi Guys,
Just got the BCE and started using it. I'm wondering though, if I run EVERYTHING through this card for the next 2 months instead of using any of my other cards, will it improve my chances of getting the 3x CLI?

Also, does the 61 days go from the day you got approved, or the day you activated it, and how do you know when it's the 61st day?

Thanks,
Kevin

It's activated date.

I'm not entirely sure if high-activity will help it. I went from $7500 -> $16,300 (not 3x) with little activity.

However, if you go from high activity -> high CLI -> huge drop off in activity. I can't help but wonder if AmEx's periodic soft pulls would wonder what happened?

Who knows...hopefully someone else has a more solid answer for you. Just my thoughts.

I don't think high activity will improve your chances. Paying on time and keeping utility low will help. The history on your card starts on your approval date not the activation date.

My bad. It is *generally* approval date. It is actually account open date, which most-often aligns with approval date.

You can call CSR's and actually ask for the eligible CLI date and get an exact date, FYI.

Good question cause I was wondering the same thing myself. I thought of not using my other two cards and using my Amex exclusively for everything.

amex activity

Postby craigm1 » Sun Jan 20, 2013 11:32 am

I received a blue sky with a $3500 credit line in 08 and it had a 3.99 transfer offer put 2k on it and for a year and a half paid them $50 a month and they kept lowering my credit line, I paid it off at the end of 2009 and switched to blue cash card and pounded the spending some months spending more than the limit paying it off half way through the month my limit went from $1100 to $30,000 and along the way 2 limit increases were done by them unsolicited I would call them every 6 months looking for an increase last 2 years I spent over 50k a year with them, I would say they like activity last year between my wife and I we had 1200 swipes

best thing I had an amex back in 89 so when I got the card in 08 it said member since 89 so it's by far my oldest credit line nearest is 98 and the highest really helps with the credit score.
