SPG Sign Up Bonus Advice

Postby alxcrlsn » Fri Jan 18, 2013 11:37 am

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say that I'm a huge fan of your work here. You all give great advice, and I was hoping you could help me too.

I was recently approved for an American Express Starwood Preferred Guest credit card, but with a $2,000 credit limit. I'd like to take advantage of the 15,000 bonus star points by spending $5,000 in the first six months, but I'm unsure of how to do this without tanking my utilization.

Can I prepay my account by $5,000, so that it doesn't come out of my available limit, or should I spend $2,000 and pay it off immediately, spend $2,000 more and pay it off immediately, etc...?

What would you recommend?
American Express Zync (primary) - main card
American Express Business Platinum (secondary) - for business and platinum benefits

If you want you could do it all in one month. Just pay off your balance in full or at least 90% before the statement period closes. Just spend between $1-1999 on anything and pay it off that night using the amex website. Feel free to partition it out over a few months but keep track of total spending so that you can reach the $5000 goal. Good luck and let us know if we can help in any other way :)
