Interesting. I must admit when I've been travelling for work or been on holiday in the US, I've never come across anywhere that didn't take Amex. Although I did come across a restaurant in NYC that only took Amex.
The only place in the UK that do that are Costco.
And for the the poster above, a restaurant that only took cash would soon go out of business here. Us Brits are useless at remembering cash haha (Apart from some oldies who seem to carry £200 in cash and like paying for small items with large value notes /sigh :P). I honestly can't remember the last time I used cash. So much quicker to use my card for even small purchases with American Express Express Pay (Contactless).
We don't have much excuse though as the UK only has one ATM network (Link) thats takes all UK cards (Apart from some Visa only ones left over from the Olympics in London) and normally charge no fee. So there is an ATM that I could use every 100 yards.
Edit: Looking in my wallet I don't actually have any British Sterling, only $20 :P
