I applied without the signup promotion, how can I get them to add it after?

Hey all,

I just recently got the Gold Premier card about 2 weeks ago and now I see on AMEX site they are offering 25k bonus points within first 3 months if you spend 2k. I called AMEX customer service to inquire about it and they told me they cannot honor the 25k bonus points even though I just got the card in the mail. I can't believe AMEX would be unwilling to honor this new request when I just got the card in the mail.

I have been an AMEX card holder now since 2003. I have an AMEX Platinum card, AMEX Blue (my first card with them) sky preferred, I have the Zync (discontinued-but still active) and my business has an Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business.

Has anyone had success getting AMEX to honor this simple and in my opinion customer satisfaction request? Thanks for any insight!

Hey there. Typically, AmEx does not offer signup bonuses for new customers.

I've been in a similar situation with another company & they didn't honor their bonus on my new account. I don't think AMEX will either.

its simply good business for them. Stores won't give you credit for a coupon for 15% off the tv you bought last week when the coupon came in the mail today. It's just how things are done. I wouldnt be angry I would just be sure to check far and wide before applying for another credit card to make sure you get the best bonus.

@rory while it may make "good business sense" customer service also makes "good business sense" as well. And your supporting argument is flawed most stores will discount a product that goes on sale after a purchase within 30 days and some will do it within 45days. The difference is a store will allow a return within 30 days and the customer could just re-purchase it at the better price. The same cannot be said for a credit card or charge card.

At the end of the day the company made a decision that is not in the customers best interest but their own - and in doing so has made me re-think imy decision on if I want to remain a loyal customer of theirs and that could have been avoided had they simply honored my request - which IMO does not see totally outlandish, some people want the world and companies can't do that and expect to remain in business but common sense would seem to apply here again only my opinion.

It would seem most people responding are supporting AMEX's decision and I accept that.

@jriley - not realy sure what you are talking AMEX runs bonus point promotions ALL the time on their charge/credit cards for new signups. They do 25k points on 1k spend within 3 months - 50k with 2k spend in 3 months, 75k with 1k spend in a calendar year. Etc. They run promotions all the time.
