How much money would you have to spend...

Well at 1 point per dollar, or a 1% rate, you'd have to spend $9500 to break even.

Spending $9500 on a 2% card with no AF would yield $190 in rewards.

Think I could get that card with ~1 year of credit history, no debt, and no baddies? I just got a discover card two weeks ago, think that will hurt my chances? no other inquiries in the past 12 months...

Think you have a good shot at it. Plus green card has waived AF for first year so after that you can try for a AF-Free revolver such as BCE and cancel the green. Good for getting your foot in the door with Amex.

since you have a Discover it wouldn't hurt to try the green card is a very nice card. American express gives ideas on using your card for part of the year.
