Applied for BCE... Needs Further Review

Postby kcarter609 » Sun Jan 06, 2013 8:44 pm

Just realized Discover posted an updated balance to my credit reports, and everything is showing under 10% utilization now. Figured it was a perfect time to apply, so I did and got a "Your application is pending further review. You will be notified by mail in 14 days."

I've been an AMEX member for 3 years now, and this is really unexpected. I figured it was an easy instant approval. I'm on hold right now waiting to talk to a CSR. I hope this goes good. The only reason I can think of why it wasn't instant was if they pulled my report and saw the Discover inquiry in October.

Active Cards:
Chase Freedom 10+10 Visa Signature ($9k Limit - 8/2012)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($10k Limit - 2/2013)
Chase Ink Plus ($7k Limit - 2/2013)
Discover IT ($9.5k Limit - 10/2012)
AMEX Zync (No Pre-set Limit - 1/2010)
AMEX Blue Cash Everyday ($20k Limit - 1/2013 - Backdate to 1/2010)

Did you apply online? Also is the discover your only inquiry right now?

Yes I applied online. 2 Chase inquiries on EX from 8/2012. EQ has 1 from Discover in 10/2012. That should be it for anything within the past 12 months.

UPDATE: CSR said that department is closed and it will re-open tomorrow morning at 8am. I guess I'll be calling in the morning to see what's up. It has to be the inquiries.

Yea, I'd say the inquiries.

You never know though. Maybe they just need additional information from you. I'd think with 3 years of having a charge card they'd extend a little more credit to you.

They may just want to speak to you if its not the inquiries. When I applied for my first Chase card I did not get an instant decision. I called the next day because it was after hours and spoke to their CSR. After about 3 minutes on the phone I was approved for a 10K limit.

No late payments on any of my cards ever. Definitely not with AMEX. Always had a good history. I did use the Pay Over Time feature on a couple large purchases when I first got past the 1 year mark because I didn't know any better, but that's it. It was always paid early, way over the minimums, and other times it was just paid in full like every 2 weeks.

Ok, the dreaded 4506T FR. Figures. I outright refused to send it in. For one, my income for the 2011 tax year doesn't come close what I make now. Two, I feel like it's a slap in the face after 3 years of good history and on time payments with American Express. The rep said I can call back in a week and see if there is anything else they can do.

Any suggestions?

Also, just out of curiosity, what would happen if I do fill it out and let them get a copy of it? It'll show just under $20k income for 2011. And is it a one-time deal? Or can they use that form to request it every year?

You got F/R'd? From what I understand, you have two options - comply, or let them close your account(s). (Or close them yourself). I have never heard of there being any other option here. So I don't know what the rep was saying by call back in a week and we'll see if anything changes, I mean it's not as if Amex is going to decide not to F/R you now if it's inconvenient to you.

Depends on if you want to remain with Amex or not. If you do, then comply. If not, close your accounts now so it can show closed by account holder (and not maybe raise questions down the road) and move on.

If you lied about your income, it could be a problem. If you didn't lie, they will probably impose a "hard limit" on your account that's lower than you'd like for a while. That's what I hear about F/R. It's possible they will do nothing, but most things I've read say if you didn't lie they give you a hard limit for a time that may be lifted in a year.

Sucks, no doubt. And one final thing - they only give you a limited time to comply - if you follow the advice of the CSR you spoke with, by the time you call back your accounts could be closed so that was very bad advice to say the least. If you intend to do that, don't wait, get it rolling, they give you only a few tries and a few days to get it done and done right. If you don't, they close you down.

Well, what happens when I submit it and the Tax return shows ~$20k for 2011, but I put down $45k for current income? I've switched jobs since then.

As a side note, they said my Zync card would NOT be closed (I doubt it... they probably froze it as of now) if I didn't comply.
