Ok, the CSR I talked to tonight is Indian or whatever and all he kept saying was "The team working on it is still processing it. When it gets approved you will get the card in 7-10 days." He wouldn't give me to the team, wouldn't talk about 4506T (which I didn't mention to him), and told me there is no way to speed this up. Whatever, I'll just wait till it shows up in the mail with a 4506T form.

So now I'm confused. You were hit with the FR. Are they processing whatever you had to submit? I see you said you'll wait till "IT" shows up I'm the mail. Are you referring to the letter requesting your cooperation with the FR? Or your BCE?

Whatever it is they are actually sending. The first CSR I hung up on because I was so pissed they FR'd me. I've gotten 2 conflicting answers now, but I'm assuming the 4506T form will come in the mail, I'll fill it out, mail it back. I have not submitted it yet.

This just reinforces my answer that AMEX customer service is very sub par compared to other companies, and that's why I stopped spending much money on their card. Only a little here and there. The people who claim AMEX is the best have a very warped sense of what is good, and I honestly think they mistake the "image of prestige" with actual customer service. I think I've had ONE time where AMEX was helpful. The rest of the time, everyone gives a different answer and nobody knows what's going on.

That's really why it didn't truly devastate me to close my Amex cards - I found exactly what you guys are saying with the CS. The American reps were good and clearly knew their stuff. The foreign CS I talked with was nice enough, but they honestly screwed up the things I asked them and told me conflicting things too, honestly a lot like I got from Capital One. I don't think they did it to be malicious but because they don't know and just seem to make it up rather than admit that and find out for you, as they figure odds are they'll never talk with you again anyway once you hang up. I agree based on personal experience their foreign CS is just a step above Capital One.

And I completely disagreed that a company that prides itself on being "elite" and appealing to the upper crust should get cheap that way, it tarnishes the brand image they strive to paint. I don't run things obviously, and they'll do whatever they want, but that's my take on it.

Amex could really do themselves some good by bringing back their American CS, for starters, or at least TRAINING their foreign CS (you'd think they could afford to with the $$$ they are saving...) and by limiting F/R to "reasonable" situations instead of it seeming totally arbitrary and doing it to customers who have paid reliably for many years and done nothing that would concern a "reasonable" person. I get they want to protect themselves, but other creditors do not do this and they seem to do as good a job of protecting themselves as Amex if not better. Just saying.

And by the way I'm confused about the whole getting the card but also getting F/R thing - not sure how that could be or the new card wouldn't be affected by the F/R? Just sounds kind of bizarre, but it's not the first time I've seen that from Amex. (bizarre behavior). Maybe I'm just not understanding what's going on? (Entirely possible!)

I don't understand it myself. I think the 2nd CSR was just saying whatever he felt like. That's why I gave up and said I'll just wait until the letter shows up in the mail.

Maybe they found something that they did not like on your reports, there could be many reasons why Amex flagged your accounts. But yeah, I think it is a good idea carter to wait for the letter and see what they have to say. If it were me getting FR'ed, I wouldn't comply. I'm not going to spend more then I make and I buy when I have the cash in my accounts, so why should they care, they'll be getting money from me anyways, but from what it sounds like, they get paranoid if anything is temporarily out of order. (at least from what I can glean reading about various posts on this topic.) But I'm curious to know since you have been loyal to them to let you stay as a customer or leave you. They have millions of customers, so losing a few here and there probably won't affect them much.

I think when I buy lunch tomorrow I'm going to use my Zync just to see if it gets declined. That'll be a good test.
