Nobody knows what triggers a FR from amex as it seems to be random which is what most people have a problem with because why does it matter if your reports are excellent and your payment is on time every time. One would image asking for a CLI after you already have an excellent CLI might raise red flags just because they don't want you to rack up a lot and not pay.

Understandable. I guess I wouldn't mind it. Like many people said before it's very intrusive.

Amex should be accustomed to their cardholders asking for CLIs 61 days in. I wonder how many folks were put under FR during the process?

I'm sure people going form $3k to $9k is one thing. $10k to $30k is asking for a little bit more. I'm sure some people do, but I'm betting the majority don't.

I agree. That is a big increase. Hopefully i can get more opinions on this. Especially from those that have gone through the process.

FR is not necessarily going to be the issue. You make 50K per year, and want a 30K credit limit. You will probably get a counter offer because I simply don't see them giving that kind of credit line for that income.

That's fine. I probably won't bother asking for the full 3x. Maybe shoot for 15-20k instead.

I think you should go ahead and ask for it and see what they counter offer. You already have a nice 10K limit so in my opinion, Amex likes you already. I don't think you'll be FRd. You don't have excessive income claims and you're in the military. I just don't see them doing that.

I could be wrong though, it's a bit of a gamble I suppose.

Agreed. I've never missed a payment. Going from 10k to 30k in 2 months does seem a little over the top. That would blow all my other CLs away.....lol the 10K is already higher than my others.
