Advice from platinum holders

Postby Deslpwr » Sat Dec 29, 2012 10:43 pm

Hey everyone, new to the site and just upgraded to the Amex Platinum. I was a PRG member, but decided to upgrade due to traveling I'll be doing throughout my new career.

I use my Amex for everything and if Amex isn't accepted, I just use a debit card. I'd like to put something else in the wallet, but not sure what to get. I'm only 24 and don't have too much knowledge in the credit card area. Should i get one more or two more cards? chase? visa? Citi? P

robably don't need another travel card so rewards or cash back? Or just something to get a signing bonus then collect dust in the drawer? Any advice is appreciated.

Chase Freedom or maybe the Discover More? I know you said you didn't want another travel card but you should really take a look at the Chase Sapphire as well.

24 and already a platinum, you're on you're way haha! I would go for a Visa or MC, since it's more widely accepted if the merchant doesn't accept Amex. Chase Sapphire is good, but I have no experience working with them. Citi I can vouch for, haven't had any problems and great customer service.
Wallet: Amex BCE & Chase Freedom. (Credit Card dieting since 2014)

Deslpwr if I were you I would think about that Capitol1 venture card yes the Blue level. you get 2 miles per dollar spent , the first year is free
and I can tell you by looking at other board members signatures there is a few people who have this card, a lot of us think this is a solid card. the only down side of this card is the 59.00 annual fee. you get concierge service on this card, don't know what the checked baggage insurance is I would imagine your in good hands. this card millions of miles better than your debit card.

since you travel on business have you thought about more of an executive card like an airline or hotel card? if your interested let us know
but if your interested in a cash back card I would agree with rMferrer the Discover More is a very nice card.
5% cash back on rotating categories this quarter is restaurants the cap is 1500, other purchases .25 percent not 1 percent when you spend over 3,000 for the year then the non 5% cash back will be 1% back. you have to remember 1 thing this is a Discover card and not all places you go will take Discover, that's some think to think about.
the Citibank Forward is a nice card 5% cash back on restaurants.
