Will an AMEX savings account help me get their card?

Postby irvinfitness » Fri Dec 28, 2012 1:55 pm

I'm not in a position to apply for an AMEX charge/credit card right now because of recent inquiries, but I'm curious if opening a savings account with them will establish my member date and allow for backdating future amex cards?

Has anyone ever done this? Also, I noticed that for the savings account application, your SSN is required. Do they do a hard pull for a savings account? If so, then I guess the first part of my question is irrelevant...

Thanks for any input.

I have Amex cards and their savings account and the two are separate things. I don't believe setting up a savings account will establish a "member since" date for a future card. I don't believe they do a credit pull for a savings account; can't think of why they would.

In other words, a savings account won't help you, but it won't hurt you either.
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.

That's what I needed to know. Thanks for the quick response. Was hoping to get it set up before the end of the year if it would help with backdating later, but now I won't have to go through the hassle of getting it set up.
