Does Amex blacklist?

Postby johnbamber » Thu Dec 27, 2012 9:32 pm

Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum... and have a query.

I currently have a Discover card with a $10,300 limit, and a PNC Secured Visa card with a $2500 limit. I just cancelled a Capital One card with a $1500 limit (because I hate them, but thats for another post)...

Back in the early 2000s, I had some trouble with credit... had 7 credit cards, 2 of which were Amex (blue cash and green), and had to go into debt consolidation to get out of trouble.

Things have improved, and my Credit Karma score is around 730 now. Other than recent inquiries to my credit, which I know have lowered my score, Amex keeps rejecting me for the Costco card. I wanted to either get the Blue Cash card or the Costco card (really want to have an Amex)... was wondering if Amex blacklists people who have had credit troubles in the past?

Is it easier to get a Green amex card than a Blue cash/costco card?

Thanks all

Yes, they black list people. Yes, green is easier to get than a Blue Cash card. From what I understand, if their debt was paid, you MIGHT have a chance at getting one of their cards again.

You might consider whether paying off Amex is worth having their card.

If you just want an Amex network credit card, Fidelity Amex has 2% flat cash back and no annual fee.

Depends, Iv'e heard stories of success and failure getting back in, the only way to know for sure is to try and apply! On another note, I can't wait to read your cap 1 story haha :)
