The only thing that annoys me is being charged extra when processing international amex cards. Amex are making a fortune on that. They make 2.75% to 2.99% depending on the country from the customer and then make another 1% from the merchant.
Amex UK Platinum Charge Card
Amex Blue Cash USA
Amex US Gold Corporate Card
World MasterCard Capital One UK (Free abroad + Cashback + Free Cash Withdrawals with no interest)

I don't think you actually have a merchant account. My swipe fees are similar to Visa or master card. There are no other little fees for me. Actually, a visa card with rewards has the highest fees of all.

But the customer saves currency fees at least on the premium cards. Plus the customer gets the wholesale exchange rate which is really good. When I need to convert cash I pay closer to 4-5% including spreads and fees. AMEX is a great deal for the customer.

It all depends on who processes cards for you and the deal you have with them. Our company charges almost triple for Amex and Discover. We were told we would have to more Amex and Discover swipes each month to get the lower rates. I'd say less then 5% of swipes would be either Amex or discover so it isn't worth it.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k
