Denied Green after rep told me it was for rebuilding credit

Postby Tink » Sat Nov 03, 2012 11:28 pm

I recently applied for an american express green about a month ago and was denied.

Reason for denial "Length of time accounts have been established, delinquency reported on accounts, too many recent credit checks, and fico score (666 EX)
I have 7 years of credit history. I have 5 cards:Victoria's secret $940, Express $1,070, Orchard Bank?HSBC/CapOne $400 and two new Cap One Cards I obtained within the past two months Cap One Cash Rewards and Cap One Platinum both @ $500 and in the credit steps program...I have a personal loan a car payment and a salary advance loan with credit union... I feel onto hard times after undergrad and couldn't find a decent paying job so I ended up getting two jobs and still struggled...however since the beginning of this year I have been on a good track.

What can I do to get my foot in the door with AMEX? I recently opened a savings account with them in hopes that they will see my savings habits and send me an offer.

Wait a year, make on time payments to all your cards for a year, keep your utilization down, and don't apply for any more cards for a year. Re-apply. That's what I'd do, anyway.
Amex Platinum
Amex BCP 21K
Amex SPG 5K
Barclaycard Arrival Plus WEMC 5K
Chase Sapphire Preferred 23.5K
Credit Union 10K
Discover IT 7.75K

I agree. It seems you have credit available, and you have at least 3 recent hard credit inquiries showing, maybe more. If I personally were in that situation, I would recognize that to banks, many credit inquiries together are a sign of danger, so I would hold off applying for any type of credit for at least 8-12 months, maybe longer, put some more time between me and the recent delinquency on my record by paying on time every month, and work on keeping my credit utilization and debt to income ratios low.
