Amex has its pros and cons along with every other card out there, this example given by the OP is a rare circumstance to say the least and should not be used as evidence that AMEX is against its good standing customers.

So just silence those that disagree and label them as trolls? Maybe some people are on the fence (or even on either side of it) and want to hear these stories. I know I do. I like to read allot of reviews about products before AND after I've started using them. It's the smart the to do.

1. Last year we tried using our blue card for paying for a friends dental work. The amount of the charge was $2800

Wow. That is some friend that you are willing to give $2800. Oh wait, you were going to give AMEX's money, not yours. I am pretty sure that your credit profile, which American Express downloads every month, will outline some other information that led to their credit decision. Sounds like a BK waiting to happen. It would be one thing using it for your own medical expenses, but not even a card member, may seem a little questionable for AMEX.

Maybe you missed my point, dont delete this thread, CLOSE IT, no productive discussion has really developed from the OP's story or at least it has all been said. There are a million stories of good and bad relationships with Amex, just like any other creditor. Please dont jump in the bandwagon thinking people just want to silence others.

BTW a troll IMO is someone who comes by, insults or makes a hyperbolic claim and then never comes back to argue his position or update his experience. He sets a fire and walks away, never coming back to check if it goes out or burns the entire forest down. OP was a troll IMO, sorry if you think otherwise

For anyone on the fence or either side of using or not using Amex, give them a try and then make up your decision. They treat everyone on an individual level, why shouldnt you do the same to them?

There is a bandwagon for that? Never heard of it.

We don't know this. Maybe it was an actual Amex user (former or current) just wanting to vent. That doesn't make him a troll. And how his he supposed to be able to come back to update or argue his position if the thread is closed?

For anyone on the fence or either side of using or not using Amex, give them a try and then make up your decision. They treat everyone on an individual level, why shouldnt you do the same to them?

True but if enough individuals complain then collectively there might be a problem.

With all that said....I don't have a problem with people sharing their experiences so I don't see a reason to close the thread.

Agreed. "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you dont reply, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will troll you."
