How Long Does It Take To Get a New Credit Card?

Postby Rory » Tue Oct 09, 2012 12:34 pm

Recently, with a helpful referral from AGP, i applied for and was approved for an amex Blue Cash Everyday card.

I applied on September 24th. It is now October 9th and still no card

I recently called and was told it would arrive on or before October 15th. On the app status page it stated i would get the card within 7-10 days

Does this seem like an absurdly long time to wait for a new card?

I have had amex ship me a new zync card overnight after it had fraudulent charges so i am surprised i have to wait upwards of three weeks to get my new card

Also, on the topic of referrals, it said that i was eligible for the bonus points even though i have recently applied for an amex within the past year. So will that override that issue and allow me to still get the $100 bonus?

Thanks guys look forward to hearing back from you

What you can do is, call them back again and see if they can send you a replacement card via overnight. Most of the time they will over night it.

For $100 bonus, talk to them via twitter, see if they can help and keep a copy twitter record. I had to do the same for my PRG, where I was a AU on AMX PLA. 1st they said I was not eligible, spoke to them via twitter, and got it done.

Im seriously considering this, seems like a whiny thing to do though. Im trying to be patient but im not sure if its normal for it to take this long

If you need it, it's not whiny. I had them overnight mine because I was leaving town and wanted to use the card while travelling.

That is too long to wait for a card. You should be firm with them about the delay. It is, after all, to the card issuer's benefit:

When you're not charging stuff on the card, they're not making money.
If it's lost in the mail or stolen by a PO worker (this does happen more than most people know), they could be on the hook for fraud losses.

I applied for the BCP on 9/21 and got it on 9/29. I think you should call them and ask what's up.

It's been 11 business days since application, but was your card approved on the same day you applied? Also, Amex mails the card 1-2 days after approval (at least for me).

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

For my SPG AMEX I was told it would take up to 13 days. My BCE took a few business days from applying IIRC. I would definitely call again by the end of the week.

Applied for PRG yesterday, got it today. Call and have them over night a new card.
